La Jolla Country Day School

We are helping LJCDS keep their enrollment numbers up through smart, strategic advertising and promotion. A fall campaign designed to drive interested families to the campus for personal tours, called INSIDE OUT, included direct mail to 20,000 homes and print ads in local newspapers as well as radio spots.

A new awareness campaign designed to articulate the points of difference the school offers to those in the market for the highest caliber educational experience.

National Geographic - Inside

Introducing "INSIDE Language, Literacy and Content", a new ESL middle school language arts curriculum developed by National Geographic School Publishing and Hampton Brown. Working closely with the NGSP/HB team we created a brand identity for the program that stretched across five levels, using color and iconographic photo imagery to denote each. The covers are enhanced with specialty printing techniques which help differentiate the product from the competitors.

We are proud to announce that these covers were chosen FIRST PLACE in middle school category at the 2009 NY Book Show. The product is competing very well for the state adoption in California. In the highly competitive school book publishing world, NGSP/HB understands the investment in great design has a direct ROI.

Urban Discovery Academy

Urban Discovery Academy is a BRAND new public charter school in downtown San Diego. The school was founded by MaeLin and Principal, Cindy Moser and is near and dear to our hearts.

VIsual Asylum created a visual identity for the school initially to help the team of founding teachers and parents garner support for the idea. Having a cohesive branded look & feel enabled the group to attract parents and teachers to sign on as well as approval from the school district.

We have designed everything from the school uniforms, interior design, exterior signage, enrollment forms, website, print collateral, fundraising materials to the parent volunteer logo, school mascot!

Because of our experience in operating a small business and in helping to lead other non-profit organizations we were equipped to design this school from the bottom, up and inside, out.

Scott Foresman - Our California

Hoping to break into the California market, Scott Foresman/Pearson Learning hired us to create a comprehensive, branded approach to this social studies K-5 program. Working closely with Linda Helton, to concept and illustrate key content messages for each cover.

CTB McGraw Hill - Fox In a Box

This product is a tri-annual assessment tool used in K-2nd grade classrooms across the country. We designed the fox character, physical puppet, and directed the illustration, then designed the product to be appropriately sized, not too big for crowded teacher storage areas. The box was designed to add a sense of decor to the room, but also reveal the fox tail, students anticipating his return, eliminating test anxiety. The materials were also redesigned to allow the teacher to easily flip through (one handed, as the other is holding the puppet)! Smart, creative and strategic. This product has sold incredibly well for CTB McGraw Hill.

Harborside Program @ Washington Elementary

Identity and print collateral materials for a special program being integrated into a local public school. The identity reflects the integration of the existing Washington eagle mascot along with the lighthouse and other "harbor" related icons as symbols of the schools proximity to the San Diego harbor front and historic fishing village.

University of California Annual Report

For many years we designed the annual reports for the UC system, working closely with the publications office of UCSD as well as the Office of the President. This particular book incorporates a holographic tipped on element that when the books moves rotates between a "yesterday" and "tomorrow" image, as the theme we developed was "a generation of discovery."
